A Biographical Overview
Arnold August (Reeh) Ray was born November 28, 1892, in Hampton, Nebraska. He lived in Amherst most of his life and moved to Kearney eleven years prior to his death on May 30, 1951. Arnold suffered from a heart attack the previous year in 1950. Arnold had six sisters of which four are listed here: Ida Sohrweid (1886-1950), Dora Hadwiger (1888-1980), Rose Heiden (1901-1976), and Leona McGhyhy (1904-1997). Arnold's obituary also mentions sisters Celia Eberle and Elsie Raab; and two brothers, Alfred and Richard.
Linda Ina (also Ida) Amanda Wuehler-Ray was born in Kearney on August 4, 1895, and passed on April 26, 1973. Linda had 8 siblings: Laura (1890-1977), Emelia (1892-1996), Rudolph (1897-1986), Martha (1899-1975), Adolph (1902-1997), Irene (1906-1999), Albert (1909-1999), and Arthur (1912-1985).
Arnold & Linda raised four daughters, Zelda, Erma, Jurethia, and Lois. On the 1940 US Census Bureau card, it was reported that Zelda and Erma were both waitresses in 1939. Zelda made $160 and worked 52 weeks that year. Erma worked for 7 weeks and made $35. Jurethia was reported as a new worker. According to the census card, they lived at 812 28th Street (street was the only indicator used by the census taker) and rented their home. Arnold's occupation was electrician (electric power). Arnold & Linda had 14 grandchildren of whom 7 lived at the time of Arnold's death. How unfortunate that Arnold never got to know all of his grandchildren. The grandchildren include:
